On Friday February 26, 2016, AIJIC Vicepresident, Jesús Rivera, addressed the Judicial Council of California in San Francisco about the need to raise the per diem rates for independent court interpreters.
Mr. Rivera also turned in petitions signed by many court interpreters statewide supporting a per diem increase. AIJIC wishes to thank Spanish Certified Court Interpreter and AIJIC member, Joel E. Rubert, J.D., for authoring these petitions which we circulated last year.
The opportunity was a good point to start the conversation about the need to increase the statewide daily compensation rate for contract certified and registered interpreters. These rates have not been revised since August 2007.
AIJIC will continue communications with the Judicial Council and the Executive and Planning Committee on this matter.
