SB 900 was scheduled to be heard today, May 14, 2020 at the Labor, Public Employment and Retirement Committee of the California Senate. The bill included AB5 exemption language for interpreters and translators, among them those with Judicial Council certification/registration, ATA certification and those belonging to AIIC.
Unfortunately, we received word earlier that the bill will not be moving forward and that it won’t be heard by the committee.
We want to acknowledge Senator Hill’s leadership on this effort and commitment to interpreters and translators, and the willingness of his office to continue to work with us and explore other AB 5 reform legislation that is currently under discussion this legislative session.
These are disappointing news, but we’re not giving up. We are continuing our efforts to explore other options in addressing the necessary changes to AB 5 with our lobbyist and legislative leadership.
