Report Non-Certified Interpreters
Government Code of California Section 68561 mandates the use of interpreters certified by the Judicial Council of California for court proceedings, and Section 68560.5 defines court proceeding as "a civil, criminal, or juvenile proceeding, or a deposition in a civil case filed in a court of record."

For Workers Comp proceedings, the Department of Industrial Relations requires interpreters to be listed on the State Personnel Board webpage (http://eservices.calhr.ca.gov/interpreterweb/interpretersearch.aspx) or the California courts webpage (http://www.courts.ca.gov/3796.htm).

Unfortunately, legal requirements to use interpreters with the appropriate credentials for court and Workers Comp proceedings, is sometimes ignored. If you learn that a non-certified interpreter was used in a legal case, we can contact the parties involved to advise them on state law requirements. Please email us at info@aijic.org.
