On 10/16/2026, the Judicial Council will vote on the recommendations from the Court Interpreters Advisory Panel regarding changes to the California court interpreter certification requirements.

Candidates who pass certain portions of the certification exam but not others would be allowed to retake the failed portion within two years but would not be retested on the portions they passed before. More information on the proposal can be accessed here.

The Association of Independent Judicial Interpreters of California (AIJIC) has submitted its comments on this proposal. Our opposition can be accessed here.
